TA-10
Temptrol Spindle
The TA-10 Spindle is the heart of the Temptrol valve and its design has remained unchanged since 1968. In addition to turning the water off and on, the TA-10 maintains consistent water temperature regardless of fluctuating water pressures, thanks to its unique pressure-balancing design.
If the valve produces only cold or only hot water, or produces no water at all, the TA-10 may be jammed with debris or minerals. A properly working TA-10 makes a noticeable clicking sound when shaken.
Once removed from the valve, a jammed TA-10 spindle can sometimes be resolved with a light tap downward to knock the debris loose. Spindles clogged with minerals can be cleaned by soaking in white vinegar until the pressure-balancing shuttle moves freely when the spindle is shaken.
If the shuttle does not move freely, or if the spindle is damaged, replace it with a new TA-10. If the valve is constantly dripping water from the tub spout or the showerhead, replace the washers on the spindle with the TA-9 Washer Repair Kit. Also be sure to check the TA-4 seats for damage or wear.
