What started as a very expensive method of printing tiny objects has evolved into something affordable enough for the mainstream. The accessibility of the 3D print prototype makes it an exciting time to be a designer.
Today, 3D printers come in different types, allowing a variety of solid objects to be made out of many different materials. The most sophisticated models can create intricate designs that even the most advanced woodcutting and carving couldn’t execute.
Symmons has embraced 3D printing within Symmons® Design Studio™. We have worked with leading architects and designers to customize their faucets, shower and accessories seamlessly, and we will 3D print your design for you. If you have a vision for your space, create something entirely unique to match. Symmons design consultants will work with you to get your perfect design, and explore new finishes and design possibilities.
Symmons Design Studio is one example of how architects and designers can customize products for their projects, and there is even more opportunity being developed in the space. 3D printing creates the ability to completely customize interiors. Designers are using the technology to customize unique fabrics, tchotchkes, lamps, accessories- the possibilities are limitless. There is even a process called “additive manufacturing” that can turn out completed design items in resin, plastic, metal or other materials in only a matter of hours.
It doesn’t stop here. Designers from MGX have been at the forefront of 3D printed furniture, with the ability to manufacture custom carving detail. With this technology, designers have complete control over their designs, from the carpet, to the coffee table décor, to the kitchen chairs.

And what about architects?
3D printing creates a way for architects to create full scale models of their buildings for prospective clients, and eventually even more. Although the process is slow, there are Dutch architects from DUS Architects and Universe Architecture working on a process for 3D printing the physical structures themselves. There is strong potential for the 3D printing of buildings made from environmentally friendly material, in an efficient way.
