The legendary Temptrol pressure-balancing, anti-scald mixing valve is the heart of every Symmons tub and shower system, and it is the benchmark by which all others are judged. Each valve is constructed of solid brass, bronze, and stainless steel, and features an adjustable piston that instantly and continually balances the hot and cold water pressure as demand fluctuates in the plumbing system. Now Temptrol is even easier to install with the Rapid Install bracket system for virtually any rough-in situation, and factory-installed options for various water supply connection methods.

WHAT YOU NEED
THE TEMPTROL VALVE
My Temptrol® shower valve recently started dripping, can it be repaired?
Yes, easily! Simply replace the hot and cold washer parts using a genuine Symmons TA-9 Washer Repair Kit. It has everything you’ll need, including installation instructions. Don’t forget to shut off the water first!
My Temptrol® shower valve suddenly only delivers all hot or all cold water. What’s wrong?
In this case, the pressure-balancing piston that moves inside the main TA-10 spindle has become jammed with some sort of debris, like minerals or pieces of dirt or solder. A good first step is to open the valve to the halfway position, remove the handle, and firmly tap end of spindle with a plastic or wooden hammer.
If the issue remains, shut the water off and remove the spindle assembly from valve, and then tap the handle end against a solid object to free the piston. Then, shake the spindle–you should hear the distinct “click-clack” of the piston moving freely.
If the piston appears to be blocked by minerals, soak the entire piston assembly in household white vinegar. If possible, flush or clean the inside of the valve body before reassembly.
If these steps do not solve the problem, replace the spindle with a new TA-10 spindle.
How do I take my Temptrol® valve apart to repair it? I can't seem to get the Temptrol® valve apart to repair it, the cap won't come off.

How do I replace a Temptrol® spindle, washers, and/or seats?
*Turn off the water to the valve before proceeding!
**Before removing the handle, open the valve as if you were going to take a normal shower (approximately half a turn).
CAUTION: Failure to open the valve before removing the cap assembly (TA-12A) will result in damage to the cap and spindle.
